Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou must have been equally impressed as he was relieved after yesterday’s Newcastle United win.

Spurs had been on a tough run of form that didn’t necessarily reflect the level of performances they were producing.

And following a timely performance and result against Newcastle, things now seem back on track for Postecoglou’s side.

Moreover, after the game, Postecoglou chose to praise one player in particular for their fantastic work rate throughout.

As well as finding the back of the net twice, Richarlison delivered the complete performance.

And speaking via BBC Sport after the game, Postecoglou was full of praise for Richarlison’s key role in Tottenham’s win over Newcastle.

He said: “Richy was important for us at the start of the year too but he wasn’t fully fit and we had to play him in different kind of roles.

“But he’s come back and that’s 70 minutes he’s played. I thought he did really well today finishing off the stuff but also I thought he worked really hard for the team.

“It was a really good performance from him.”

Of course, the challenge will now be for Richarlison to deliver this level consistently.

Whilst he’s struggled since his big-money move to Spurs, the Brazilian has never looked more confident than he does now.

Whether it’s on the left or playing centrally, Richarlison should thrive with the amount of chances Postecoglou’s side creates.

The striker was clinical with less service at both Watford and Everton in the past, and should now be able to produce some impressive numbers.

Moreover, Richarlison’s form over the next few weeks may have an influence on Spurs’ January transfer plans.

Postecoglou was delighted with his display against Newcastle, but he’ll probably need to see more of the same to prevent Tottenham turning to the January market.

Recruiting a centre-back is the priority, and a run of good form for Richarlison would allow greater freedom elsewhere.

And with Tottenham now targeting an exciting £40m option in January, that could bode very well.
