Amani Richards has taken to Instagram to confirm that he has left Arsenal – just over two months after he signed his first professional contract with the Gunners.

Richards has been in and out of the under-18 side this season. But his appearance in the recent 3-0 defeat to West Ham proved to be his longest showing in the under-18 Premier League this term.

Unfortunately, it now appears to have been his final appearance for the club.

Richards joined Arsenal from Chelsea last March. And it appeared that those behind the scenes at Hale End had extremely high hopes for the teenager.

It was announced in December that Richards had signed his first professional deal with Arsenal. When the announcement was made, he spoke about being a boyhood fan of the club.

The news was met with a positive reaction from Jack Wilshere. The former Arsenal man congratulated Richards but insisted that he needs to keep pushing.

However, the 17-year-old is now looking set to move on. Richards took to Instagram on Sunday to announce that he has now left Arsenal.

He expressed his gratitude for the chance, as well as his excitement regarding what is to come next for the youngster…

Surprise decision so soon after Richards signed Arsenal contract

Of course, there are plenty of reasons why Richards may have moved on. The striker was still awaiting that first goal for the under-18s in the league.

And he had not enjoyed consistent game-time. So perhaps he felt that he needed to move elsewhere for the sake of his development.

It does seem a perplexing situation however. Clearly, all parties felt that he was moving in the right direction back in December with the contract signed.

Plenty of Arsenal fans will wish Richards well and be keeping a keen eye on what is to come for the teenager.
