Ally McCoist suggests Tottenham should make move for £25m attacker this month

Ally McCoist has suggested that Jota may be worth a punt for Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window following reports that Ange Postecoglou is interested in the winger.

Spurs have flown out of the blocks in the early stages of the window. They have already signed Timo Werner on loan, and have landed Radu Dragusin permanently.

And Tottenham fans may be hoping that they are not done yet after a first-half of the campaign in which they have lost so many key players to injury.

The signing of Werner has certainly strengthened their options in attack. So perhaps Spurs fans may now not be expecting a move for Jota.

Tottenham apparently spoke to Jota about a potential move ahead of the window. His time in Saudi Arabia has been underwhelming. And you would imagine that the chance to reunite with former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou would appeal to the wide-man.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Ally McCoist suggested that Tottenham would certainly benefit from landing the 24-year-old.

“If Spurs could get him to play and Ange could get him the way he did for Celtic, he was a good watch. Chipped in with a few goals, could go by people. If he could get the same player, who clearly hasn’t hit if off in Saudi Arabia, I think he is worth a punt,” he said.

One to keep an eye on as deadline gets closer

Jota proved to be an exceptional signing for Celtic, scoring 28 goals and providing 26 assists in 83 games for the Hoops.

That prompted Al-Ittihad to pay £25 million to sign him in the summer. And he should only just now be approaching the peak of his career.

Perhaps it will prove to be the kind of move which Tottenham consider later in the window. They may be wary of where he would fit into the side once the likes of Heung-min Son and James Maddison are available again.

Having that additional depth is unlikely to do them any harm as they look to remain around the summit in the Premier League.
