Ally McCoist spotted Kai Havertz do something “a bit naughty” as Arsenal took on Porto in the UEFA Champions League last night.

The man from Bellshill made the comments when speaking on commentary duty for TNT Sports alongside Darren Fletcher.

So, what did Arsenal No.29 Kai Havertz do against Porto? Let’s take a look…

What Kai Havertz did against Porto

Well, the Germany international was heavily involved on Tuesday night, almost pressuring Pepe into a mistake for Martin Odegaard to score while also netting his penalty in the shootout.

However – before the Round of 16 clash went to penalties – Havertz was seen pushing Sergio Conceicao after attempting to bring the ball down by the touchline.

The £65m man somewhat lost his balance, and used the Porto boss to stay upright by giving him a bit of a shove, which angered the Portuguese giants as staff members and substitutes were visibly annoyed on the bench.

McCoist also saw what Havertz did, and said: “It’s a little bit naughty that. A wee bit of a lack of respect. There’s no need for that.”

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash did develop into something of a scrappy affair, with heavy challenges regularly being committed as both sides gave it their all.

While we do not condone what Havertz did, we can understand it – it was a hugely significant game, and emotions were beginning to overspill the longer the match went on.

Arsenal No.29 showed gritty side to his game

Havertz did not exactly have a fantastic game in an attacking sense against Porto – SofaScore shows that the German failed to have a single shot on goal, nor did he complete a dribble.

However – in what was a physical game up against a colossus in Pepe – the Arsenal No.29 showed a gritty side to his game, which helped create openings for the Gunners.

Havertz won ten of his attempted 13 aerial duels – and also five ground duels – while winning five freekicks from Porto as well.

Had the 24-year-old not tugged Pepe’s shirt right at the last moment, something Paul Merson criticised him for, his determination would have created a goal for Odegaard.

Whatever Mikel Arteta has done to Havertz on the training pitch at London Colney, it is truly starting to pay off.
