Ally McCoist says he’s ‘sorry’ for what he’s just said about Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah

Ally McCoist has been ranking and rating some of the biggest and best names in modern football history.

Indeed, taking part in a TikTok challenge for The Mail, Ally McCoist has been ranking and rating some of the best wingers to ever play the game, and he made some interesting claims.

McCoist, of course, is a huge fan of direct, attacking players – McCoist has previously hailed Gabriel Martinelli as a player, while McCoist has always been a fan of Mohamed Salah.

However, despite the fact McCoist is a huge fan of Salah, he actually picked another Premier League great over the Egyptian when ranking the best wingers in recent times.

Ally McCoist picks Gareth Bale over Mohamed Salah

McCoist was asked to choose between Bale and Salah.

Of course, both men have been incredible players over the years – Bale is a two-time PFA Player of the Year winner from his time at Tottenham and a five-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, while Salah is in Ballon d’Or winning form at the moment.

However, McCoist ultimately chose Bale over Salah.

“Bale or Salah?” McCoist was asked.

“Oh, oh Salah is not a winger, but I know what you’re saying. Oh, I’m sorry Liverpool fans, but I’m gonna have to say Bale,” McCoist said.

McCoist also made some other interesting picks here as he chose Bale over Neymar and Ryan Giggs over David Beckham.

Gareth Bale compared to Mohamed Salah

Comparing Bale and Salah is such an interesting debate, because both players are amazing in slightly different ways.

Of course, both men are direct, pacy wingers with left feet blessed by god, but Salah is much more of a goalscorer than Bale ever was.

However, Bale had a scary knack of turning up in big moments and scoring big goals, something that Salah doesn’t necessarily do as well.

Bale has the greater CV due to his incredible trophy haul at Real Madrid, but Salah has the goals and assists to make his own case.

Both men are brilliant players, and, undoubtedly, they go down as all-time greats.

Salah is still performing at the top level, and who knows? Perhaps he could go some way towards catching Bale’s trophy haul in the coming years.
