Ally McCoist has given his verdict on the performance of Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.

Former Chelsea player Andy Townsend was also impressed by the display produced by Martinelli in the London derby.

Well, Arsenal hammered Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the Premier League this past weekend.

The Gunners were firm favourites headed into the London derby, and Mikel Arteta’s side never looked like they would even drop a point against Palace.

Gabriel Martinelli did not start the match for Arsenal. The 22-year-old Brazil international came on as a substitute for Leandro Trossard, who scored for the Gunners in the 59th minute.

Martinelli scored two identical goals. The first one came in the fourth minute of injury time and the second just a minute later.

Former Rangers and Scotland international striker Ally McCoist was hugely impressed by Martinelli, and so was ex-Chelsea player Andy Townsend.

McCoist said on talkSPORT (6:09 am, January 22, 2024): “I’ll tell you who looked lively, Martinelli! Couple of great finishes.”

Townsend responded: “When he came on he was great.”

McCoist added: “Two good wee finishes as well mate, very similar.”

Townsend then noted: “Weren’t they good goals? Took them really well.”

My View: Confidence boost for Gabriel Martinelli

In my view, Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli’s confidence will have been boosted by his two goals against Crystal Palace.

Martinelli has not exactly been in great form in recent times. We know that he can do better.

However, the way he took his goals against Palace showed his class, and I believe that the Brazil international will now go from strength to strength.

Martinelli has made 112 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The winger has scored 30 goals and given 14 assists in those games.
