Alexis Mac Allister has made a sensational claim about a player Liverpool sold during the summer transfer window.
The Reds broke the Premier League transfer record twice this summer as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak arrived at Anfield for a combined £241 million.
While the German has been scrutinised for his performances since completing the switch from Bayer Leverkusen, the champions embarked on the biggest transfer window in the club’s history to bolster the title-winning squad.
Liverpool have maintained a perfect record at the start of the season across all competitions, while the summer arrivals, excluding Hugo Ekitike, are yet to hit the ground running on Merseyside.

Although the headlines have focused on the near £450 million outlay spent on new acquisitions, the Reds have also continued their impressive track record in offloading players.
However, Mac Allister has revealed that the club sold one player who bears a close resemblance to Barcelona legend Lionel Messi.
Luis Diaz reminds Alexis Mac Allister of Lionel Messi
When speaking to a Liverpool fan in an interview with TNT Sports, the Argentine was asked who the closest player to Messi he had ever played with, and he named Luis Diaz.
“Well, I think the Dembele when we play PSG away was um, at that time he was really, really good level.
“I would put Lucho up there as well, Lucho Diaz. It was really hard to mark him, even in training, I had to give him a couple of tackles.”
Diaz signed for Bayern Munich in a £65.5m move this summer, ending his three-and-a-half-year stay at Anfield, where he won every domestic trophy available.
The 28-year-old has already made history in Germany and has hit the ground running for Vincent Kompany with a return of three goals and two assists in his opening four Bundesliga outings.
As revealed by TBR Football, Diaz decided it was right to leave Liverpool following their Premier League title success last season, as negotiations regarding a fresh contract had reached a standstill.
Indeed, the Colombian enjoyed his most productive campaign in a red shirt last year, but his departure was viewed as a necessary sacrifice as Arne Slot aimed to capitalise on his side’s success in the transfer market.
There was a possibility that he could have remained on Merseyside for the final two years of his deal, but the proposal presented by Bayern was too lucrative to turn down, and now Diaz is very happy at the Allianz Arena.
Liverpool are not missing Luis Diaz
Mac Allister’s claim is certainly bold, but recent results and performances have proven that Liverpool made the right decision in selling Diaz this summer.
Cody Gakpo has been the undisputed option on the left flank thus far, but as his displays have somewhat dropped off since the Premier League opener against Bournemouth, a summer signing could now find a place on the left of the front three.
Ekitike continued his sensational start to life in English football as his goal in the Merseyside derby marked his third goal in five competitive outings.

And with Isak slowly but surely returning to match fitness, Ekitike could be moved onto the flanks to accommodate the Swede, and would be the ideal solution for Slot to fit both his new forward into the same starting line-up.
Whether the 22-year-old can continue his form in a wider position remains to be seen, but his recent form suggests that Slot cannot afford to exclude him, and therefore, Gakpo could soon lose his starting berth.
