Alexis Mac Allister names who he believes is the best passer in the Liverpool squad

Alexis Mac Allister turned out to be one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers last season after joining the club from Brighton – and will look to continue this trend in the 24/25 campaign.

The midfielder recently returned to Liverpool after a triumphant Copa America 2024 campaign with Argentina and is gearing up for his second season at Anfield under new manager Arne Slot.

Alexis Mac Allister featured in Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Sevilla last week and is set to star the Reds’ Premier League opener against Ipswich Town.

The 25-year-old is one of the most technically gifted players across the current Liverpool squad, but in terms of passing, he believes one Liverpool player is definitely ahead of him.

Alexis Mac Allister thinks Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best passer at Liverpool

In a video posted on Liverpool’s official Instagram account, the Reds squad were seemingly doing the ‘pass the phone to someone’ trend.

When Mac Allister got the phone, he passed it on to Trent Alexander-Arnold saying “I’m passing the phone to the best passer in the team.”

The Anfield faithful are well aware of Alexander-Arnold’s passing abilities, with the defender capable of pinging balls across the pitch to his teammates with consummate ease.

Do Alexander-Arnold’s stats back up Mac Allister’s verdict?

Last season’s Alexander-Arnold boasted a pass success rate of 79.6% across 25 Premier League appearances for Liverpool.

While that number doesn’t really set the world alight at first glance, it is important to take into account the fact that the 25-year-old is the most adventurous passer in the team who doesn’t shy away from playing cross-field diagonals at will.

He also inverted into a midfield role a handful of times under Jurgen Klopp and was tasked with breaking defensive lines with a killer final pass.

A combination of the above factors coupled with the eye test would lead one to believe Mac Allister is absolutely bang on with his assessment of his teammate.

Will Alexander-Arnold renew Liverpool contract?

Alexander-Arnold’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2025 and it remains to be seen if the boyhood Scouser puts pen to paper on an extension.

Liverpool will want to tie him down to the long haul as they aim to shape a new era under Arne Slot, but keeping hold of their star player won’t be easy.

Jamie Carragher fears Real Madrid will look to sign Alexander-Arnold next year, with the 25-year-old being snapped with Jude Bellingham on holiday earlier this summer adding fuel to the fire.

Barcelona are also keeping tabs on Alexander-Arnold, indicating that the Liverpool vice-captain won’t be short of suitors if he decides to move on from his boyhood club.

Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have also entered the final years of their contracts, so the coming months are crucial for Liverpool as they face an uphill battle to retain arguably their three most important players.
