Alex Iwobi says Man United sold the best set-piece taker he’s ever seen for just £10m

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has now revealed just how highly he rates former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira.

Joining the academy back in 2012, Andreas Pereira went on to make 75 appearances for Man United before he departed for Fulham 11 years later.

Fulham paid £10m for Pereira’s services at the time, a midfielder who went on to play more than 100 games for the west London club.

Of course, it was once believed that Pereira could be the next big thing at Old Trafford, and whilst the Brazilian has enjoyed a strong career in England, he never quite reached those heights.

But when speaking about his former Fulham teammate recently, Alex Iwobi was keen to point out just how technically gifted Pereira was.

In a TikTok with Sports Direct, Iwobi was asked to create his ‘ultimate baller’ from players he’d featured alongside.

And when it came to choosing the best set-piece taker, Iwobi gave it some thought, and then Pereira’s name prevailed.

Otherwise, Iwobi leaned on a host of his former Arsenal teammates, the likes of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil.

And although United do have Bruno Fernandes on hand to expertly craft their set-pieces right now, perhaps Pereira’s excellent deliveries would still be welcomed by Amorim.

Interestingly, when United sold Pereira to Fulham they did retain a 20 per cent sell-on fee in the deal.

And it’s therefore worth mentioning that Fulham sanctioned a move for Pereira to join Brazilian side Palmeiras this summer.

Jose Mourinho once called Andreas Pereira ‘phenomenal’ at Man United

Pereira made his United debut all the way back in 2013, long before Jose Mourinho was appointed as manager.

However, in 2018 when Mourinho was in the thick of his United spell, the legendary manager decided to seek out Pereira for special praise.

The now 29-year-old had just returned from a season-long loan at Valencia, and Mourinho seemed seriously impressed by his talent.

Mourinho said: “I don’t want to go without bringing a message about Pereira.

“He was on the bench as a right winger at Valencia and came to Old Trafford as a number 6 and played phenomenally.”

A superb technician who will undoubtedly thrive for Palmeiras over the seasons to come.
