'One season at the top': TalkSPORT pundit claims Liverpool fans might be getting too excited about Darwin Nunez
Outspoken TalkSPORT pundit, Alex Crook, has suggested that Liverpool fans might be a bit too excited by the prospect of Darwin Nunez lighting up the Premier League.
Nunez has arrived at Liverpool this summer as their big money signing. The Uruguayan striker comes in with a high reputation, having played well against the Reds last term in Europe and netting more than 30 goals across the campaign.
However, despite that stunning season last year, Crook has spoken live on air today and insisted that there is still plenty for Nunez to prove, citing his lack of experience and consistency as a potential issue.
“I’m not concerned, I don’t care if he fits in or not if I’m honest. But if I was a Liverpool fan, my one worry would be that he’s only really had that one season at the top level in European football. That’s if you count the Portuguese as the top level.
“Now I know you’ll counter it with Diaz, and he was exceptional for Liverpool, but two years ago, Brighton and West Ham were both in with a realistic chance of signing Nunez,” Crook said on TalkSPORT.
Crook isn’t the first pundit to air concern on Nunez. Sky’s Tim Vickery also spoke last month of how the Uruguayan will have plenty of adapting to do to succeed in England.
TBR’s View: Klopp Will Get Nunez Firing
Darwin Nunez has cost the big bucks but there haven’t been many players Klopp hasn’t got a tune out of. In terms of what he brings to the table, Liverpool fans can be excited.
Of course, Crooks’ comments are fair game. Nunez hasn’t really done it for a long time but Liverpool might simply have got him before he’s had chance to do that.
Liverpool will get goals from Nunez this season and come May, he’ll have proven a fine signing.
