'The biggest step': Sky Sports reporter shares one big concern about Liverpool's new signing

Sky Sports‘ South American football expert, Tim Vickery, has said he has only one concern for Liverpool newbie, Darwin Nunez, after he completed his move to Anfield.

Nunez has signed for the Reds in a huge deal said to be worth around £80m. He is Liverpool’s marquee signing and will be tasked with trying to replace the goals lost through the sale of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich. Of course, Nunez hit more than 30 last term, so he’ll be confident in his own ability.

However, Vickery, speaking on Sky Sports earlier today, insisted that while Nunez has taken everything in his stride so far, the move to England is the biggest challenge he’ll face yet.

“So far, everything that’s been put in front of him, he’s eaten up. but this is a big step up. A season in Uruguay, a season in the Spanish second division, two seasons in Benfica – he’s made everything look easy,” Vickery said.

“This is the biggest step. The Portuguese league doesn’t have the strength in depth of the Premier League. You look at him and you see all the tools, he can play the tempo required by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.”

Nunez will no doubt be hoping to get off the mark quickly in his new colours. And with the likes of Luis Diaz and Mo Salah supplying him, he should at the very least get big chances.

TBR’s View: Darwin Nunez Can Look To Diaz Impact For Inspiration

Few players have made as big as an impact at a club as Luis Diaz has since he signed. After arriving in January, Diaz immediately looked like he’d played in the English game for years.

Nunez, then, can take some solace from the fact a fellow South American has done the business so quickly. He’ll be hoping for a bit of that himself, with early goals sure to ease the pressure.
