Report: Albert Lokonga set for Arsenal medical in Belgium before flying to England

Arsenal are inching ever closer to signing Albert Lokonga, with a medical due to take place in Belgium before he flys to England.

The Athletic make the claim this afternoon. Their report states that the young midfielder has all but agreed a move to the Gunners, with his medical now set to take place on European soil.

Lokonga will then fly to London for a period of self-isolation before being able to join in with training and pre-season with the Gunners.

As reported earlier today, it’s suggested a £21m fee will be paid for Lokonga by the Gunners. The midfielder has turned down moves to Italy in order to seal a move to the Premier League.

The Athletic’s update would appear to be bringing an end to the long chase to get the Lokonga deal over the line. Mikel Arteta, then, will be delighted to finally get his man.

Done deal?

Arsenal fans can now probably rest easy with the Lokonga deal. It looks all but done, barring any late hiccups in the medical.

He should prove a shrewd signing, too. £21m spread out over the years is not a huge outlay for someone with such a high ceiling.

Lokonga should add steel, power, and energy to the midfield. And with Granit Xhaka set to leave, it really is a good time for him to join.

Gunners fans will be hoping this planned medical goes off without a hitch and they can finally celebrate landing Lokonga.
