'Here we go': Fabrizio Romano delivers Arsenal transfer update
Fabrizio Romano has posted an update on Arsenal and their pursuit of Albert Sambi Lokonga, claiming a deal is done and using his trademark tag: “here we go”. The Anderlecht star has been sensational for Vincent Kompany’s side. Now, Romano says a deal was agreed on Tuesday.
Lokonga, 21, has caught the eye at Arsenal after clocking up 37 appearances during 2020-21 – at both centre-back and in holding midfield. He has even had a hand in six goals during that time. His form has even seen him called up to Belgium’s national team, though he is yet to win a senior cap.
Arsenal are in talks with numerous players – Ben White and Nuno Tavares among others. But it looks as if their first signing of the summer could now be Lokonga. Romano claims a £15million fee, with £3million in add-ons has been agreed – since Tuesday night. Final paperworks are being completed.
Is Lokonga worth £18million, as Romano says Arsenal move close?
It is a risky move. Lokonga is clearly a player with immense talent. Versatile, he has also been recognised by Belgium. At just 21, Arsenal are signing a player with massive potential. But he has only shown this talent in the stratosphere of Belgian football. It is a big, big step up at Arsenal.
Not just because it is Premier League football, but because Arsenal boast one of the most-demanding fanbases in European football. While it is fair to say Arsenal are underperforming and fans are frustrated, Lokonga needs to hit the ground running. It is a risk, but a good deal for the Gunners.
