Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking Olympique Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who also happens to be a target for Arsenal.
The Brazil international had an impressive campaign for Les Gones last season. He scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions, and it is no surprise that he’s a wanted man this summer.
Alasdair Gold says Tottenham have been tracking Lucas Paqueta
Paqueta has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League since the turn of the year.
Newcastle tried extremely hard to sign him in January, but that move didn’t materialise. The Magpies are still said to be interested in Paqueta, as are Arsenal, who are rumoured to be very keen to sign him.
If Gold is to be believed, Spurs have been looking at the Brazilian too, but if Antonio Conte’s side are to make a move, it will only be after Fabio Paratici gets rid of a few of their unwanted players.
The journalist said in a Q&A on Football London: “Spurs have been tracking Lyon’s Brazil international Lucas Paqueta for a while.
“He adds plenty of versatility and fits the idea of a more advanced Conte number 10 that can create out wide and would provide the Italian with two players in every position if he signed with Richarlison able to be used either up front or on either flank.
“There’s plenty of interest in Paqueta with Newcastle and Arsenal among those linked to him and again as I said below Spurs want to get players out of the door first before they can move for anyone on a big deal.
“The Brazilian’s price tag, with three years left on his contract, has gone all over the place this summer with talk of a £68m one to a lower £33m one in recent days but Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas is not a man to let anyone go on the cheap.
“I just wonder whether if Paqueta were to leave the Ligue 1 side this summer than he would want to go somewhere he can start every week rather than a club like Spurs were the competition now for those attacking spots is intense.”

TBR View:
Lucas Paqueta would be a great signing for most clubs in the Premier League.
The Brazilian can play in a wide range of positions and will give Conte a number of options. His quality on the ball is fantastic, his passing is brilliant, and as he showed last season, he can score goals too.
Tottenham are reportedly said to be on the market looking for a new number 10, and Paqueta definitely checks the box.
To add to that, Spurs could get one over Arsenal if they sign him – something Tottenham supporters will absolutely love if it happens.
