Newcastle United had a busy summer transfer window of signings and departures, but Alan Shearer has praised one man whom Eddie Howe opted to sell.
Howe oversaw another busy summer at St. James’ Park as he looked to overhaul his squad once again to ensure it was ready to compete on all fronts this season.
Newcastle signed the likes of Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, and Jacob Ramsey to ensure they’re just as competitive this season.
However, plenty of people also headed to the exit doors as Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, and Sean Longstaff departed Newcastle. But one player has gone on to impress Shearer.

Alan Shearer praises Martin Dubravka’s ‘inspired’ performance for Burnley
Martin Dubravka was one player Newcastle got rid of during the summer transfer window, with the goalkeeper being sold to Burnley for an undisclosed fee.
Dubravka has gone on to impress when playing for the Clarets, and his performance against Nottingham Forest last week landed him in Shearer’s Premier League team of the week.
“An inspired display from Burnley’s goalkeeper, who produced several outstanding saves to earn his side a valuable point against Nottingham Forest.”
Dubravka was signed by Scott Parker to replace James Trafford, who was brought in by Manchester City during the summer transfer window, and he’s adapted well to life at Turf Moor.
Dubravka spent seven-and-a-half years at St. James’ Park, where he played 179 times and kept 54 clean sheets.
Newcastle United signed Aaron Ramsdale to replace Martin Dubravka
Newcastle opted to bring in Aaron Ramsdale this season on a loan deal from Southampton, ensuring they still had two competitive goalkeepers.
The Magpies now have two England internationals battling it out to be the first-choice goalkeeper at the club, although Nick Pope is winning out on that front.
Pope has started every game this season for Newcastle in the Premier League and Champions League.
The Newcastle number one has kept Ramsdale out of the squad by keeping four clean sheets out of five Premier League fixtures, showcasing his quality when fit.
