Alan Shearer says Arsenal player has been superb under 'a lot of pressure'
Alan Shearer has told the Premier League website that Aaron Ramsdale has been magnificent since moving to Arsenal, as he named the goalkeeper in his team of the season so far.
Ramsdale has surely been the surprise of the campaign in the top-flight. Even Mikel Arteta must have struggled to imagine that the England international would prove to be such a good signing so quickly.
Of course, many ridiculed Arsenal when they spent £30 million to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United. And he began the season as understudy to Bernd Leno.
He received his Premier League chance after the first international break. And he went on to take the opportunity with both hands.
Ramsdale has been colossal for Arsenal. He boasts the third-best save percentage in the league, according to FB Ref. And only Ederson has kept more clean sheets than the 23-year-old.
So it is no surprise that Shearer has named Ramsdale in his team of the season so far. The pundit lauded the way the stopper has completely silenced his critics.
“Been under a lot of pressure, pulled off some magnificent saves,” he told the Premier League website. “Not only that, but his distribution from the back has also been superb and set up so many Arsenal attacks.”
Impact Ramsdale has made off the pitch almost as large as his impact on it for Arsenal
Ramsdale has not only been brilliant for Arsenal on the pitch, but he has also added so much off it. Just yesterday, he was the one lauding Leno as his rival made save after save against Nottingham Forest.
It is not uncommon for a clip of Ramsdale to go viral as each Arsenal game passes. He is certainly a fan favourite. And he is backing that up with some brilliant performances.
There are likely to be times when Ramsdale’s form does dip. But there is no question that he is securing some serious credit in the bank with his displays so far.
