Alan Shearer now delivers his verdict on Garang Kuol’s cameo display for Australia last night
The Magpies snapped up Kuol in September but he’s yet to make an appearance for Eddie Howe’s side as he’s set to make the move in January.
The 18-year-old is very much seen as a prospect for the future for Newcastle but he has put in two impressive displays at the World Cup.
Australia were knocked out of the competition by Argentina last night after they surprisingly pipped Denmark to a spot in the last-16.
Despite the 2-1 loss, Kuol got another 18 minutes under his belt as the Socceroos chased down an equaliser and Shearer was impressed with Newcastle’s new signing.
Shearer delivers verdict on Kuol
Speaking on BBC’s coverage of the game yesterday, Shearer delivered his verdict on Kuol’s cameo display against Argentina.
“He didn’t half put himself around. He let the defenders know he was there,” he said.
The youngster almost wrote his name into Australian football history as he had a chance to equalise with what was nearly the last kick of the game.
Kuol did everything right but was denied by a brilliant save from Aston Villa shot stopper Emi Martinez and Australia headed out of the competition.
The Central Coast striker looked bright during his cameo display against La Albiceleste and also played around 15 minutes during the 4-1 loss to France.
Regardless of Australia’s World cup exit, the signing of Kuol looks to be a huge coup for Newcastle.
A report from 90 Min claimed Borussia Dortmund were also very interested in bringing the Australian youngster to Germany.
Dortmund have shown countless times to have an eye for spotting gems but Kuol will be making the switch to St James’ Park next month.
The youngster will now have the time to prepare for his switch to England and it will be interesting to see if he can make an impact in Howe’s squad, or whether he will be sent out on loan for regular game time.
