Hugo Lloris was the centre of attention for Tottenham again yesterday as he endured a nightmare day at the office against Newcastle.
Lloris clashed with Callum Wilson after a poor piece of goalkeeping saw him hit the deck to allow Wilson to lob him into an empty net. The French stopper then allowed a tame Miguel Almiron effort to go underneath him as Newcastle went into cruise control in North London.

Of course, Lloris’ actions were the source of a lot of attention in the pundit world and Alan Shearer, speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, believes Lloris was specifically targeted by Newcastle.
“That set up there with the pressing they are inviting Lloris to do that [pick a pass]. They know he’s not the best with his feet. They are saying if you are stupid enough to pass that ball we are going to cut it out and if it’s not a good ball, like it’s not, we’re going to close them down,” Shearer said on MOTD2 last night.
“Say what you want about Spurs and how bad it is defensively but from a Newcastle point of view that is magnificent.
Lloris had a really poor game.”
Shearer wasn’t the only pundit to pick out Lloris either. Jamie Carragher noticed how the ‘keeper was moaning about the decision as he made his way back to his goal.
TBR’s View: Lloris Isn’t Helping Tottenham At The Moment
While Lloris is a legend at Spurs and has made over 400 appearances, there has been times when his ability is called into question.
At times, he seems to have these mad moments which result in Tottenham conceding goals. It must be infuriating for Antonio Conte, who simply wants his Spurs side to cut out the mistakes and give him a platform to win games from.
The problem for Spurs is that they don’t really have someone pushing Lloris too hard. Fraser Forster is a good experienced deputy, but he’s never going to dislodge Lloris as it stands.
