Ajax fans react as Newcastle reportedly eye Overmars as director of football
Newcastle are reportedly considering a move to raid Ajax for director of football Marc Overmars – and Ajax fans have reacted on Twitter.
Overmars, 48, is regarded as one of the best technical directors in European football – having worked wonders in his nine years at Ajax.
Taking control of the transfers in 2012, he has overseen the rise of Ajax back to the big time – and to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018.
He has been crucial in the big-money sales of the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek and plenty more.
Also, he has brought a number of players to Ajax – struggling at their previous clubs, only to turn them into world beaters at the Dutch club.
Examples include Dusan Tadic from Southampton, Daley Blind from Manchester United and Seb Haller from West Ham – in January.
What are Ajax fans saying about Newcastle eyeing Overmars?
Clearly, he specialises in getting value for money when buying players – and then vice versa when selling Ajax’s stars. Exactly what Newcastle need.
The Toon’s owners are the richest in world football – so clubs will look to take advantage. Newcastle will be made to pay over the odds.
Ajax fans love Overmars – a man that clocked up 189 appearances for the club as a player. They are desperate not to lose him to Newcastle.
