'Poor': Gabby Agbonlahor says one Liverpool has been the worst player at this year's World Cup
Liverpool fans won’t be surprised to hear Gabby Agbonlahor has picked a Reds player as his worst player at the World Cup in Qatar so far.
Agbonlahor has caused a stir with the Reds this season and even got the attention of Jurgen Klopp. It’s led to a bit of tit-for-tat between Agbonlahor and Liverpool fans over on TalkSPORT. Of course, the former Villa man is not one for backing down easily, and he’s stuck to his guns for much of the season.
And speaking about the World Cup over on TalkSPORT today, Agbonlahor was asked who his best and worst performers have been in Qatar. Unsurprisingly, Agbonlahor went for a Liverpool player in the form of Darwin Nunez.
“Nunez has been poor. He’s looked like Milan Baros,” Agbonlahor said on TalkSPORT.
Nunez has struggled for Uruguay so far and he needs to help his team to a win over Ghana this afternoon to even stand a chance of qualifying.
The big striker was signed in the summer for more than £70m. Since then, he’s shown signs of being the player Liverpool need but there have been inconsistencies.
Indeed, a poor World Cup will do little to help. And if he struggles against Ghana, Agbonlahor will no doubt be waiting in the wings to have his say, despite reports suggesting Real Madrid are watching him.
TBR’s View: Uruguay need more from Nunez
This is being written just as prepares to take on Ghana and by the time it goes out, he might well have proved Agbonlahor wrong.
However, prior to the Ghana clash he has been poor. In fact, all the front three for the South Americans have been dire really and looked a shadow of what many expected them to be.
For Nunez, a big performance against Ghana will be key. If he can fire them through, and then return to Liverpool in the winter in good form, then that’s good news all around.
