Gabby Agbonlahor believes Jack Grealish will stay with Villa, amid transfer reports

Gabby Agbonlahor has said he has heard Jack Grealish is staying at Aston Villa this summer, amid reports Manchester City could make a move.

The England and Villa star is said to be on the radar of a number of top clubs in England. Those clubs are said to include both City and Manchester United.

As covered by TBR, the Daily Mail has claimed recently that City have held tentative discussions over a move for Grealish. Any move would have to be around the £100m mark, according to that report.

And former Villa striker Agbonlahor, who was speaking on Talksport today, believes those values are correct. He is also suggested he’d heard Grealish is indeed staying put.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

“Jack Grealish will stay is what I’ve heard. And that Villa will also invest,” Agbonlahor told Talksport.

“Who can afford him? If Aston Villa were ever going to sell him, they’d want over £100m. Do Manchester City need him, they have Foden. I think City and United are the only ones who’d go for him. But with Covid, are these teams are going to pay over £100m for him?”.

Grealish is currently away with England for the Euros. Any decision or bids for him are likely to come after the tournament.

Villa are said to be keen on adding to their ranks this summer, too. They have reportedly bid for Emi Buendia from Norwich. However, he could be in addition to Grealish, rather than a direct replacement.

Mega-deal needed to tempt both Villa and Jack Grealish

While it’s not unreasonable to imagine Grealish at a Champions League club, it’s also hard to see him just leaving Villa.

As Agbonlahor suggests, the £100m+ fee is a real sticking point. So is Grealish’s loyalty to the Villans. It would, therefore, need to be a huge offer on all parts to tempt him.

You also get the feeling it won’t just be money Grealish leaves for. He is the main man at Villa Park. So any move, really, needs to be about competing for the best trophies in the game.

City, then, would seem the most logical move if this one did come about.
