Mikel Arteta says Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu is ‘very close’ to returning from injury

Arsenal have had plenty of injury issues this season, haven’t they?

Jurrien Timber has been out of action since the opening day of the season, while Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey and Fabio Vieira have all spent considerable time on the sidelines due to injury issues.

Partey made his long-awaited comeback last night, and that is a massive boost for the Gunners. When he is fully fit, he’s among the best midfielders in the world, and he makes Arsenal so much stronger.

Now, there’s more good news for Gooners as Mikel Arteta confirmed after the 6-0 win at Sheffield United last night that Takehiro Tomiyasu is on the verge of returning to the squad.

The Japan international hasn’t played a game for Arsenal since the turn of the year. He returned from the Asian Cup with an injury, which Arteta described was worse than he thought. But now, it looks like it’s only a matter of time before he’s back.

Arteta said last night, as per Arsenal.com: “He’s very close.

“He’s already doing something on the grass and hopefully we’re going to have him very close with us.”

Jurrien Timber could return soon too

Following Thomas Partey’s return last night, Arsenal only have three players out due to injuries – Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jurrien Timber.

We don’t know what’s going on with Zinchenko, but Mikel Arteta has just confirmed that Tomiyasu is on his way back to action.

In what’s even more good news for Arsenal fans is that Timber is not too far away either. The Dutchman has been training with the squad since last week, and he even pulled off an excellent nutmeg on Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal look excellent on the pitch now, and with almost all of their players returning to the squad ahead of the business end of the season, they could become a force to be reckoned with.
