'Absolutely top class': Kyle Walker is a big fan of 'fantastic' £30m player Tottenham reportedly want to sign
Kyle Walker was asked about England teammate Jordan Pickford, who is all set for his 50th cap against France.
Barring injury, the Everton goalkeeper is certain to start as the Three Lions go in search of a place in the semi-finals at the expense of the world champions.
Pickford is a reported target for Walker’s former club Tottenham as they look ahead to life without Hugo Lloris, who will be in the opposing goal on Saturday.
Walker also touched on the way that Pickford ousted another ex-Spurs man, Joe Hart, between the sticks for England, and has made the position his own ever since.
Walker on Pickford
“I’ve got nothing but praise to say for Jordan and congratulations on getting your 50th cap on Saturday. Hopefully he can put in the performances he’s been putting in for the last number of years.
“To move Joe Hart off the pedestal was a big statement for him to say he’s on the international stage. He’s not let us down, he’s been fantastic and hopefully that can continue for many years.”
Pickford hardly had any international experience to his name when he went to his first World Cup in 2018 but was rock solid as England made the semi-finals.
He made himself a national hero with his penalty save against Colombia, as England won a penalty shoot-out for the first time ever in the tournament.
He only let in two goals as England made the final of Euro 2020, and saved two spot-kicks in the final, including one from Jorginho to keep his side alive.
As Walker said, Pickford has never let England down and a big performance will be needed on Saturday night to help England get through.
