‘Absolutely phenomenal’: Pundit has been so impressed with 25-year-old Arsenal man, he’s a real leader
Mikel Arteta would have wished the season didn’t pause for the World Cup last month.
Arsenal were absolutely flying, and have only dropped four points all season.
The Hammers will be a tough first game back, with David Moyes’ side desperate for points after a poor start to the campaign.
Hislop was talking about the current Arsenal squad, and their potential activity in the upcoming transfer window.
Hislop also highlighted that he’s been very impressed with Gabriel Jesus this season.
In particular, his leadership on the pitch, but Hislop then discussed whether Arsenal will try to replace him next month.
Jesus picked up a serious injury at the World Cup that required surgery, ruling him out for months.
The pressure is now on Eddie Nketiah to pick up the mantle as Arsenal chase an unlikely league title.
Hislop has been seriously impressed with Jesus
Speaking to ESPN UK about the Brazilian, Hislop said: “Whether they [Arsenal] can maintain that for the length of the season, I think the January transfer window will determine that.
“Gabriel Jesus has been absolutely phenomenal for Arsenal, and how do you replace that?
“It’s less about goals with Gabriel Jesus, and how he leads the line, he brings a certain level of leadership that I think Arsenal have been missing for quite some time.
“It comes down to who is able to be brought in, and how quickly they hit their stride in filling that role.”
The signing of Mudryk would allow Arteta to shift Gabriel Martinelli inside if he wanted to.
However, Arteta has already hinted that he wants to keep the young Brazilian out wide.
It’s no surprise Hislop has been impressed by Jesus, as the 25-year-old has helped revolutionise Arsenal.
Although he’s only scored five league goals this season, his work off-the-ball has been outstanding.
