Aaronson excited about Gelhardt and Bate following Leeds move

Brenden Aaronson has picked out Joe Gelhardt and Lewis Bate as two of the youngsters in the Leeds United squad he is particularly excited about as he gave an interview to LUTV following his move to Elland Road.

Aaronson has been unveiled as the Whites’ first signing of the window. Reports emerged suggesting that the USMNT international was on his way almost immediately after Leeds secured survival on the final day of the season.

The Whites have reportedly paid £24.7 million for the 21-year-old. He arrives after a superb campaign with Red Bull Salzburg.

Leeds fans will be wary of getting carried away given some of the criticism that has been directed at Victor Orta in the last few years. But there is cautious optimism that Aaronson is yet another hugely exciting youngster with a bright future ahead.

Leeds have a brilliant group of young players in their ranks. And Aaronson picked out a couple of the starlets who stood out to him when asked about the talents coming through.

“Yeah it’s very exciting, seeing some of the talents coming through right now, it’s amazing,” he told LUTV. “Joe Gelhardt and Lewis Bate and a few of these other young guys that are killing it and are doing really good, in the last games are getting trusted by Jesse in huge games.

“So it’s exciting and it’s great to be a part of it.”

Aaronson excited about Gelhardt and Bate

It is no surprise to see Aaronson pick out Gelhardt. The striker has enjoyed a superb first year in the first-team fold. He scored some key goals and produced some moments of magic when Leeds desperately needed it.

But Bate has had to bide his time a little more. He shone at times. But he was also handed a tough task when Jesse Marsch picked him against Chelsea.

His time will come. Meanwhile, Leeds also have Sam Greenwood and Crysencio Summerville knocking on the door. Charlie Cresswell and Leo Hjelde both shone in games against West Ham this past year. And there are others too.

Obviously, Leeds need to sign proven players this summer. But there is a real opportunity to build something special if they can get their recruitment right in this window.
