Aaron Ramsdale’s dad now shares what he was told before his son joined Arsenal

Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale’s dad, Nick, has responded to claims by David Raya’s agent that his client was Mikel Arteta’s first-choice target two years ago.

The Englishman has been in the news a lot since he was dropped by Arteta. The Arsenal boss clearly prefers Raya over Ramsdale, and the Spanish goalkeeper’s agent’s comments last week have made a bit of noise as well. Nick Ramsdale has now had his say on The Highbury Squad.

What Mikel Arteta told Aaron Ramsdale’s dad before signing his son for Arsenal

Before Arsenal signed Aaron Ramsdale in the summer of 2021, the Gunners were heavily linked with a move to sign David Raya from Brentford.

No move materialised then, and Arsenal fans didn’t really care because Ramsdale came in and quickly became a fan favourite at the Emirates.

The Englishman is one of the most loved members of the squad even to this day, which is why fans were really upset when Raya took his place in the side a couple of months ago.

Last week, Raya’s agent told AFTV: “Arsenal showed interest (in Raya) for the first time three years ago, in 2021. They tried to buy him but Brentford didn’t want to sell him at any price. After, they bought Ramsdale, that was an easier option, but David has always been the priority.”

Speaking about those comments, Ramsdale’s dad, Nick, said: “David Raya’s agent is really and truly doing his job for the person who employed him, which is David Raya. That’s not really a problem.

“If Mikel Arteta wanted David Raya first of all, that’s factual, that’s true. (There’s nothing wrong with that) not at all. My only problem is, when I spoke to Mr Arteta on the phone before he signed Aaron, he said he wanted Aaron.

“I’ve probably gone a bit too far now but never mind. David Raya was back on the market and he’s had David Raya. That’s not really a problem.”

Mikel Arteta won’t be happy with these comments

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has always preferred to keep things behind closed doors, so comments from both Raya’s agent and Ramsdale’s dad are unlikely to go down well.

Ramsdale’s dad is clearly annoyed with the way his son has been treated, and who can blame him?

The England goalkeeper barely did anything wrong to lose his place in the side, and even though Raya has made plenty of errors already, Arteta seems willing to ignore all of that and stick with him.

It will be interesting to see what will happen in January, but if things don’t change, we reckon Ramsdale will push for a move away to get regular game time.
