Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya’s agent has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur made an official bid to sign his client in the summer.

The Spaniard has been the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons over the last few weeks, but he is still a quality goalkeeper. He is Arsenal‘s number one now, but if Tottenham were prepared to pay more money, he could’ve been at Spurs.

Arsenal star David Raya’s agent says Tottenham bid for him

David Raya was keen to leave Brentford in the summer, and numerous clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, were interested in him.

Spurs were looking for an upgrade on Hugo Lloris, and everyone felt Raya would be perfect for them.

However, the Spaniard’s agent, Jaume Munell, has now revealed that Brentford’s valuation was too high for Tottenham, who despite making an ‘official bid’, pulled out of the race to sign him.

Munell has also revealed that Manchester United and Chelsea enquired about signing Raya, while Bayern Munich also made concrete efforts to get him.

However, it was Arsenal who won the race for his signature in the end.

Munell told AFTV: “This summer, he had just one year left on his contract with Brentford and Arsenal was the club that showed the most concrete interest and have always been our priority.

“Tottenham also was interested and made an official bid but it was refused because was lower than the 40 million euros that Brentford wanted to sell him, also Bayern Munich was interested and had an amazing offer but with no buy option included and for this reason, we’ve not accepted it.

“Bayern Munich didn’t understand our refusal because they thought that Raya would have been the backup keeper at Arsenal but as you can see it’s not like this. Also Manchester United and Chelsea made an inquiry but nothing concrete.”

Tottenham struck gold with Guglielmo Vicario

A number of Tottenham fans were annoyed in the summer when Arsenal signed Raya on loan for a fee of just £3 million (ESPN), while Spurs ended up with Guglielmo Vicario, whom many hadn’t even heard of.

However, after watching how the two goalkeepers have fared this season, Tottenham fans will be delighted that they got the Italian over Raya.

Vicario has been one of the signings of the season so far. He has been magnificent for Spurs and is one of the biggest reasons why they’ve been so good.

Raya, on the other hand, has struggled, and he has come under a ton of criticism for some of the mistakes he has made over the last few weeks.
