‘A different direction’: Jamie O’Hara suggests Tottenham sign 25-year-old speedster who was linked in May
Jamie O’Hara has suggested that Tottenham should try sign Manchester United forward Anthony Martial before the transfer window shuts.
Martial, 25, is a French attacker who’s recognised for his speed, directness and goal threat.
He finished last season with seven goals and nine assists across all competitions. But, it always feels like he is underperforming given his vast talent.
The Daily Mail reported back in May that the Manchester United star is someone that Spurs’ recruitment team were looking at as a possible target.
Pundit and ex-Spurs midfielder O’Hara says he would like to see his former club target Martial this summer, amid all the speculation about Harry Kane’s future.
“We haven’t won anything with him (Kane), so why don’t we change and do something different? Go in a different direction, and don’t call me crazy when I say this, like a Martial, like a Patrick Bamford. Someone with a bit of pace. The way we played at the weekend I really enjoyed,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.
Anthony Martial has talent, but Tottenham should avoid
If Kane ends up leaving, Spurs need to bring in a centre-forward who’s a natural goalscorer. Martial doesn’t quite fit into that category.
Martial has a strong tally of 78 goals in 259 senior appearances during his six-year spell at Old Trafford. However, it’s hard to picture him getting anywhere near replacing the goals Kane contributes.
Also, he still has three years remaining on his Manchester United contract. Any selling club will be able to squeeze money out of Spurs, if they’ve just sold Kane.
