£50m attacker who impressed Pep Guardiola has now decided he wants to sign for Newcastle

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United’s frustrations in the transfer market have been well documented by this point.

Amidst Newcastle’s issues with Alexander Isak’s future, they’ve also struggled to execute deals for several key targets.

Perhaps the most frustrating is Joao Pedro’s decision to join Chelsea instead of Newcastle – a player Howe was so keen to bring to St James’ Park.

But the Brazilian has simply now joined a long list of players who have vetoed a move to Tyneside in favour of joining a Premier League rival.

Newcastle walked away from a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo themselves, who instead joined Manchester United, and all in all, it’s been a difficult few months.

Jacob Ramsey is keen to work with Eddie Howe at Newcastle

That being said, The Athletic have now shared some information on Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey which will finally make good reading for Newcastle fans.

In their ‘Deal Sheet’ report, it’s detailed that Ramsey would prefer to join Newcastle despite interest elsewhere this summer.

TBR Football recently revealed that Ramsey didn’t want to join West Ham – the attacker is seemingly not interested in joining a club competing below Villa.

Therefore, a move to Champions League qualified Newcastle does make sense for Ramsey.

And according to the report, Newcastle’s project and the chance to work with Howe is thought to carry great appeal to Ramsey.

Pep Guardiola has been impressed with Ramsey at Villa, a player he’s previously thought about bringing to Manchester City.

And it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Howe would also be very excited to work with Ramsey, who is understood to be valued in excess of £50m.

Ramsey would love to play in the Champions League

As mentioned, Newcastle qualified for Europe’s top competition at the expense of Villa this season.

Unai Emery’s side will attempt to win the Europa League instead, a competition the Spanish manager has a long history of success in.

But as TBR Football have previously reported, Ramsey would love to play in the Champions League, explaining why a move to Newcastle could be the perfect match.

To date, the 24-year-old has played 10 times in the Champions League, scoring once and providing two assists.

And whether it’s as a left-winger or as a number 10, Ramsey would get plenty of opportunities to add to that tally under Howe.

Perhaps Newcastle fans would prefer their side to find a 20-goal striker right now, but Ramsey would still be a stellar addition, irrespective of the Isak situation.
