Arsenal face one of their biggest challenges of the season up next with the North London derby on the agenda for Mikel Arteta.

Martin Odegaard‘s injury last night has really left a sour taste in the mouths of Arsenal fans up and down the country, with no word yet on how long he’s going to be out for.

The challenge on the midfielder wasn’t a pretty one, as Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner trapped his ankle, resulting in him hobbling off the pitch and being substituted.

This is precisely what Mikel Arteta will have been dreading ahead of one of the biggest games of the season against North London rivals Tottenham.

Worryingly, it appears as if another player is a big doubt for the North London derby…

Charles Watts says £42m Arsenal player is a ‘significant doubt’ for the Tottenham clash as well as Odegaard

Riccardo Calafiori was injured during Italy vs France which ruled him out of the Israel game.

Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Calafiori as he stated it’s not serious and just a knock.

With the North London derby upon us, this was great news at the times for fans.

However, Charles Watts when speaking on his YouTube channel has cast some doubt over whether the defender will feature against Tottenham.

“Now he has come back to England early to carry on his treatment at Arsenal rather than staying in Italy.

“Now you know obviously that sounds a little bit worrying when you hear it like that but I think it’s a very sensible decision. Arsenal want to assess him over here.

“You have to say he’s certainly gonna be a doubt for the NLD, all the messages that we’re getting at the moment is that it is still nothing too serious and we’ve just got to hope that is the case.

“But yeah you’ve got to think he’s going to be a significant doubt for the NLD.”

Will Calafiori be a big miss?

Calafiori, who joined for £42 million in the summer transfer window has only played 42 minutes of Premier League action so far this season.

The likes of Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko have been preferred at left-back by Arteta, and it now looks as if he’ll have to call upon one of them once again.

His potential absence isn’t that big of a blow. It’s more the fact that injuries feel like they’re piling up, and it adds a bit of pressure, especially now with Odegaard set to spend time out.

Arteta is already having to move Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling around potentially, and now he may have to draft a new face in to sit on the substitutes’ bench.
