What sources are now saying about Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori’s injury

Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of new signing Riccardo Calafiori after he limped out of Italy’s international squad over the weekend.

Calafiori put in a fine performance to help Italy beat France but also picked up an injury which has ruled him out of the game with Israel.

The Italian media have reported that the injury is indeed enough to keep Calafiori out of this week’s fixture and for Arsenal fans, there’ll be a worry.

The Gunners have already had to sit back and watch fellow new signing Mikel Merino get injured just minutes into his first training session.

Losing Calafiori, then, could be another nightmare situation given the North London Derby is next.

However, in what appears to be good news for Arsenal fans, Fabrizio Romano has shared a fresh update on the defender.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Riccardo Calafiori’s injury

Taking to X to provide an update on the situation with Calafiori, Romano has moved to suggest that Arsenal fans needn’t be worried when it comes to the Italian.

Arsenal need Calafiori fit

While he’s not nailed down a place in the XI just yet and will have to work hard to do that, there’s no doubt Riccardo Calafiori is going to be vital for Arsenal.

At the minute, Jurrien Timber is the man with the shirt at left-back but as we’ve seen with Man City recently, the idea of playing essentially four centre-backs is a real option for Mikel Arteta.

With Tottenham next and a tough run of games to come including European fixtures, Arsenal need Calafiori fit and firing.

Yes, it seems like this is nothing.

But until he’s back at London Colney and confirmed as available for the weekend, Arsenal fans will be sitting with a sense of worry about their new signing.
