£40m Real Madrid star's two-word reaction after seeing Liverpool's Bobby Firmino left out of the Brazil squad
The enforced Premier League break may be just what Jurgen Klopp needs to reinvigorate his squad.
It’s been a poor start to the season for Liverpool compared to their last few campaigns.
Klopp is going to lose some of his most important players for the next month, but plenty of first team players will be sticking around.
One player who narrowly missed out on a call-up was Roberto Firmino.
Firmino was in Tite’s most recent squad before the World Cup announcement, and has won 55 caps.
However, he didn’t make the final 26-man squad, and will be supporting the Selecao from home.
At 31, this was likely Firmino’s final chance to play at a World Cup, especially with the amount of young attacking talent Brazil have.
Firmino took to Instagram to reflect on the news, and received plenty of support from his teammates.
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo also sent Firmino a message of support, as he prepares for his first World Cup.
Rodrygo send message to Firmino
The Liverpool forward posted on Instagram after the announcement, saying: “Passing by to say thank you for all the lovely messages.
“The World Cup is a dream for every player and with me it wouldn’t be any different.
“Yesterday, things didn’t go the way I imagined or dreamed for my life but I can look back and have a grateful heart to God that he has already allowed me to live that dream as well as so many others.”
Rodrygo then sent a message to Firmino that simply said, “Giant Bobby”.
The £40m Real Madrid star will be travelling to his first World Cup, and was picked ahead of Firmino.
Firmino has struggled to be a prolific goal scorer for Liverpool in recent seasons.
However, he’s having a better campaign this year, having already scored eight goals in all competitions.
Klopp would have wanted to see Firmino perform on the biggest stage for Brazil.
But deep down, may just benefit from the 31-year-old having an extended rest.
