Liverpool could soon be welcoming a top talent to Anfield – with both Arne Slot and the player himself keen on making an agreement happen.
The Reds are yet to make a new signing since the Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp, although the mood around Liverpool is positive nonetheless as the 45-year-old’s work on the training ground begins to take shape on the pitch in friendlies.
Now – however – Liverpool could be close to making the first signing of Arne Slot‘s reign…
Giorgi Mamardashvili wants to join Liverpool
A story from COPE in Spain now states that Giorgi Mamardashvili wants to leave Valencia for Liverpool – and the Reds are keen on signing the Georgian.
The Spanish news outlet believe Liverpool are planning to sign the Georgia international as their No.1 for the future, intending to loan him out until Alisson Becker is no longer capable of shining in between the sticks at Anfield.
COPE add that Atletico Madrid are also considering a move for Mamardashvili if Jan Oblak departs – although the Valencia No.25 seemingly has his heart set on joining Liverpool.
The Spanish news outlet do not mention any financial details, although the man from Tiflis is said to have a release clause worth €100m (£85m) written into his contract at the Mestalla.
However, Valencia are not expected to demand that to be triggered, with The Times claiming that the Spanish giants would accept £35m for Mamardashvili this summer.

The 23-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions for Valencia last season, keeping 13 clean sheets.
Mamardashvili has even been described as “one of the best” goalkeepers in Spain by Miguel Angel Moya, who also compared the Liverpool target to Real Madrid No.1 Thibaut Courtois.
The Spaniard told COPE: “It is true that, if he continues like this, it will be difficult to retain him, but the club has done very well to keep him. It seems to me that, right now, he is one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga, without a doubt. He reminds me a lot of Courtois, with a big wingspan, very tall but agile. He has determination, takes risks, dominates.”
How long the Georgia international may have to wait until Alisson Becker leaves
Mamardashvili will have to wait until the summer of 2027 for Alisson’s contract to expire, so if this deal materialises, the glovesman might have to spend several seasons on loan until the Brazilian departs.

However, Alisson is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, so Liverpool could opt to cash in and recoup some of the £66.9m spent to sign the South American from Roma back in July 2018.
