Ange Postecoglou has been praised for his direct approach in the transfer market since arriving at Tottenham, whether that be buying players that fit his style – or selling players who are out of favour.
In the past, and like many other clubs, Tottenham have refused to sell players unless their market value is met. But ultimately, their contract runs down and their price decreases anyway. Why not, bite the bullet.
Davinson Sanchez, Harry Winks and Eric Dier have all been offloaded, while other players have left the club on loan. Perhaps in a bid to drum up some form and throw themselves into the shop window.
Joe Rodon is one example, shining at Leeds United. One player that did not shine out on loan at Leeds from Tottenham though, is 23-year-old Djed Spence. Just seven games, and his loan was cancelled.
Ange Postecoglou wielding the Tottenham axe to good effect
He has since moved to Genoa in Serie A, with the Italian outfit boasting a permanent clause in the loan. Genoa have a good relationship with Spurs, having sold Radu Dragusin to Tottenham back in January.

It is believed that Postecoglou chose not to include the England U21 man in his plans in the summer, due to question marks over his attitude. That is also said to be the reason for his Leeds loan being cancelled.
Now, Spence is on loan at Genoa – who would need to spend £8m to land him permanently. According to La Voce Rossoblu, Spence is keen on his loan being made a permanent one – and Genoa are keen.
Tottenham would be making an £11m loss on Djed Spence
The move would see Tottenham lose cash on a player that clearly has talent in abundance, but needs to find the right home in order to get his head down and focus. His attitude clearly needs improvement.
Indeed, Spurs spent the best part of £20m to land Spence from Middlesbrough – after he starred for Nottingham Forest in the Championship, helping Forest gain promotion under Steve Cooper’s guidance.
So, Spurs are losing £10m or more on a player. But, they are gaining £8m for a player that right now, is nowhere close to even being included in Postecoglou’s squad. Spence wants to go, Spurs should cash in.
