23-year-old attacker now missing from match day squad, after rumours Arsenal could sign him

Joao Felix is missing from Atletico Madrid’s match day squad for their clash against Oviedo tonight, after rumours that Arsenal could sign him.

Mikel Arteta is seemingly prioritising signing a new attacker this month after they were dealt a blow when Gabriel Jesus picked up a knee injury at the World Cup.

The Gunners were held to a goalless draw by Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium last night.

They certainly haven’t found goals hard to come by in Jesus’ absence so far, scoring seven in their two games before last night’s stalemate. But the Spaniard’s lack of attacking options from the bench was evident and it’s an issue they will need to address.

The Athletic reported yesterday that Arsenal could make a late move to sign Felix during the current window

Of course, the Gunners are locked in talks with Shakhtar Donetsk over Mykhaylo Mudryk but Felix has seemingly been left out of Atletico’s squad for their Copa del Rey clash tonight.

It’s no secret that Felix looks set to leave the Spanish capital this month and will seemingly be available on loan, albeit with a hefty price involved.

Of course, the Gunners are pressing ahead with their attempts to land Mudryk as a top priority but Felix could be a brilliant addition to their squad.

The only problem with a deal at this moment in time is Atletico’s demands, which are said to be putting off various interested sides.

Sky Sports reports that the La Liga outfit are demanding a total package worth around £19 million for the Portuguese star, which includes his wages.

It’s a massive outlay for any side considering they would only be taking the player for half a season. But the Athletic has claimed that Arteta’s side could make their move, providing Atletico lower their demands

Felix would solve many of Arsenal’s current issues as he’s capable of playing across the front-three. He could easily fill the void left by Jesus, while providing quality cover for both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Yet, it seems Atletico will have to budge on their valuation of the player as it is currently putting teams off a potential move.
