Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dane Scarlett impressed coaches in training on Wednesday.

Dane Scarlett returned from a loan spell at Ipswich Town ahead of schedule last month. The 19-year-old managed just 12 appearances from the bench for the Championship outfit.

After a goalless spell in East Anglia, Scarlett is back in the mix at Tottenham and got some minutes under his belt in the FA Cup against Manchester City last month.

And as Spurs prepare for a clash against Wolves on Saturday, it would appear that Scarlett has caught the eye in training.

In a video posted on Tottenham’s official YouTube channel, Postecoglou was putting his players through their paces ahead of a home game against Gary O’Neil’s side.

Scarlett was involved with the first team and he impressed coaches during a shooting drill.

The youngster produced a composed first-time finish to beat Alfie Whiteman, which earned him some praise from Postecoglou’s coaching staff.

One could be heard shouting: “Yes Dane, good!”

It’s fair to say that the early stages of Scarlett’s career haven’t exactly gone according to plan after a difficult spell at Ipswich.

The Englishman had impressed at Portsmouth during the first half of the 2022-23 campaign. But after a change of manager midway through the season, the youngster fell down the pecking order at Fratton Park.

Scarlett impressed Postecoglou during pre-season last year though and will have only benefitted from the experience he gained while out on loan.

Spurs will be aware that it takes some youngsters a bit more time to adapt to first-team football.

Take Harry Kane, for example, who struggled during multiple loan spells as a youngster before going on to become arguably the best striker in the club’s history.

Of course, it would take some going for Scarlett to replicate Kane’s achievements in north London. But Tottenham should remain patient with the youngster and another loan move next season could be best as he continues his development.
