£17m Brazilian says agent has spoken to Arsenal
Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has told Globo that his agent has spoken to Arsenal this summer – but that no offer was made by the Gunners.
Bruno, 23, only joined Lyon from Atletico Paranense in January 2020 for £17million (Mail). He has since clocked up 49 appearances for Lyon.
A Brazil international, he was part of the side that won Gold at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this summer – alongside Gabriel Martinelli.
Now, the player has told a source in his home country that Arsenal had spoke to his agent – but nothing came of the talks, with no bid made.
“Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho, is to win a title with Lyon,” Guimaraes said.
“It is difficult with PSG, but anything can happen. My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”
Bruno to Arsenal: Just what Gunners need in midfield
There is a difference between needing a bit of steel in midfield – and being Granit Xhaka. Stupidly, the Swiss was sent off on Saturday.
It is as if Xhaka has lost all care for the club. A lack of know how, a lack of temperament, a lack of footballing intelligence, and a lack of quality.
When Roma were trying to sign Xhaka earlier this summer, Arsenal held out for £20million. Surely, they rue that decision now.
Because if they had sold him, they might have the necessary funds required to replace Xhaka with Lyon’s Bruno. The difference is, Bruno is clever.
Also, younger. Bruno times his yellow cards, tactically. In 37 games, he only picked up six yellows last term. Instead, Arsenal are stuck with Xhaka.
