£12m player now suggests he does not want to join Aston Villa despite approach from the Villans

Aston Villa now look set for disappointment after a target for Unai Emery suggested he does not want to join the Villans.

Monchi – Director of Football at Villa Park – is working hard to prepare Aston Villa for the UEFA Champions League next season, although the Spaniard may have to explore other targets as he looks to improve the defence.

So, which Aston Villa target has now suggested he does not want to link up with Unai Emery? Let’s take a look…

Denzel Dumfries suggests he does not want Aston Villa move

A story from Calciomercato recently claimed that the Villans had approached Inter Milan to sign Denzel Dumfries.

The Netherlands international has been a target for Aston Villa across the last 12 months, although the Dutchman has now expressed his love for Inter Milan and a desire to stay at the San Siro.

Fabrizio Romano quotes Dumfries as saying: “I think my future will be at Inter, yes. It’s a top club and I love it, I feel at home at Inter. We are in negotiations over new deal, there’s new ownership now so we will see what happens, but Inter is my family, I really love the club.”

Therefore – barring a shock development – it sounds as if the £12m defender is highly likely to remain in Milan heading into the 2024/25 campaign.

That will be sure to upset a few Aston Villa fans, as Dumfries has been described as one of the best right-backs in the world, and is a real attacking threat down that flank with ten goal involvements last season.

Change looks set to happen anyway

Whether it is Dumfries or somebody else who bolsters the right-back department at Aston Villa, change looks set to happen regardless.

Respected journalist Dean Jones recently claimed that Emery is happy to let Matty Cash leave Villa Park this summer, so if that exit materialises, we would expect a new right-back to be signed.

The Villans are believed to want more than £16m to sell the Poland international.
