Zinedine Zidane’s return to Real Madrid has pushed Gareth Bale closer to the Bernabeu exit door, according to the Independent.
They report that the Frenchman is to oversee a £300m overhaul upon his second spell at the club where he was so successful and Bale – as well as another former Spurs star in Luka Modric – are expected to leave as a result.
Zidane also reportedly wants to bring in Christian Eriksen, with the likes of Eden Hazard and Neymar also more speculative picks on his summer wishlist.
But that raises the prospect of a potential swap deal between Bale and Eriksen – which was mooted by the Express earlier in this month.

The temptation for Bale to come back on an emotional return may be great, but a shrewd businessman such as Daniel Levy may be tempted to stick with the younger man in Eriksen.
The Dane has been a durable member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad throughout an injury-hit season, while Bale has had his injury problems in not just this but other campaigns as well.
But in any case, if Zidane is keen to offload Bale, and get Eriksen, who is still yet to sign an extended deal – a fairytale return for the Welsh hero may be the best Tottenham can hope for.
