Yves Bissouma sends four-word message to Spurs fans, drops squad number hint

Tottenham Hotspur newcomer Yves Bissouma has taken to Twitter with a message for the Spurs fanbase.

The north Londoners signed the Mali international from Brighton on Friday, becoming their third summer signing.

Bissouma joined Tottenham in a £25million deal which, according to Sky Sports, could rise to £35million with add-ons.

Why Footballers Keep Running Down Their Contracts

The 25-year-old follows Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster through the door, with more signings potentially on the cards.

On Tuesday afternoon, Bissouma posted a photo of himself on Twitter, with the message “Come on you spurs”.

He tagged the official Tottenham feed, included several emojis, and even dropped a hint regarding his future squad number.

Bissouma wore the number 8 shirt while at Brighton.

And by writing “YB8” on his latest post, he suggested that this could be the case at Spurs too.

At present, Harry Winks wears number 8 at Tottenham, but his future at N17 is uncertain.

The 26-year-old struggled for regular starts last season under Nuno Espirito Santo and then Antonio Conte.

Winks made 30 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions in 2021-22, but just 17 were starts.

Conte brought Rodrigo Bentancur to Spurs in January, which led to Winks falling down the pecking order.

The Telegraph recently claimed that the Spurs academy graduate is on Frank Lampard’s Everton transfer wishlist.

“The type of player they are looking for”

Tottenham icon and former Brighton boss Chris Hughton lauded Spurs for getting the Bissouma deal over the line.

He told The Sun: “What Spurs have paid – in this day and age to get a midfielder who is a good age going to a top club – it seems very good business to me.

“There is no doubt he is the type of player they are looking for.

“When you consider that they paid £63m for [Tanguy] Ndombele, it is good business – there are players going for more than that.”
