Youri Tielemans is a big opportunity missed by Tottenham

Tottenham should be kicking themselves that they look set to miss out on reported target Youri Tielemans.

According to the Telegraph, Spurs were weighing up a late dramatic bid to hijack Leicester’s interest in signing the Monaco midfielder on loan.

The report detailed that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was prepared to sanction a move for the 21-year-old.

But HLN now reports that Spurs appear to have lost the race for the Belgium international and he will have a medical with Leicester City today (Wednesday) ahead of a loan switch.

Spurs are closing in on back-to-back transfer windows without any signings and it would be another big blow to supporters, especially after being dumped out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup recently.

They have lost midfield enforcer Mousa Dembele following his January exit and could really do with a replacement.

Tielemans is a highly-rated young midfielder with a great reputation and he could have been perfect for Spurs, but losing out to Leicester is a bitter pill to swallow.

He is an all-action central midfielder that can be a physical presence and also has an eye for goal.

Tielemans could have been a great short-term fix for Spurs to help them push for top four and go deep into the Champions League, but it’s more disappointment for supporters.
