'You're talking days': Celtic tipped to make important announcement soon
Celtic could make an announcement on their new manager in “days, not weeks”, according to Craig Moore.
The Hoops were reportedly talking to Eddie Howe over the past few months, only for talks to collapse.
The Hoops have now reportedly turned their attention to Ange Postecoglou, the Yokohama F Marinos coach.
The 55-year-old previously led Australia to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil before taking on his current role in Japan.
According to the Glasgow Times, he is a respected figure within management circles.
His Yokohama team – which won the J League in 2019 – has earned plaudits for their attractive and innovative playing style.
Moore, who worked as an advisor for Postecoglou at the 2014 World Cup and 2015 Asian Cup, believes a deal is close.
“For a deal to happen here you’re talking days not weeks,” Moore told Sky Sports.
“Like any deal, there’s some behind the scenes stuff, whether that’s compensation – he is under contract at his current club.
“So again I expect a conclusion for this deal. If it was going to happen, in days not weeks.”
Brendan Rodgers praise
Former Celtic and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers faced Postecoglou’s Melbourne Victory in a pre-season friendly in 2013.
“Their coach is outstanding,” Rodgers told The Guardian at the time.
“I’ve had a couple of chats with him, and to see his team play, he’s very similar to myself.
“He believes the game should be played in a certain way.
“You can see the team is very well coached, so we knew it was going to be a tough game for us.”
Postecoglou is an experienced manager with an impressive CV and it’s somewhat surprising nobody in Britain has considered him yet.
Celtic have a lot of work to do if they are to knock Rangers off their perch, but Postecoglou seems like a good shout to do such a job.
