A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to wish Tyger Smalls well following his trial with the Gunners as he looks to secure a dream transfer.
The 17-year-old currently plays for ninth-tier outfit Saffron Walden Town after joining from Haverhill Rovers, where he scored 15 goals in 24 games this season, according to the Daily Star.
In January, Smalls – who played for Tottenham at Under-11 level – signed with the TMG Football agency and, according to the Evening Standard, has attracted interest from clubs further up the football pyramid.
The young striker confirmed on his Twitter account that he had spent five days training with Arsenal’s Under-23s, managed by Steve Bould, and hinted at having also trained with the first team.
Some Arsenal supporters replied to Smalls on social media wishing him the best and asking to keep them updated:
According to the Daily Star, Smalls also spent time training with Serie A side SPAL earlier this season.
Smalls is very highly rated by his manager at Saffron Walden, Jason Maher, who has tipped the young prodigy for professional football.
“He has developed physically, and I don’t have any doubts that he will be a professional,” Maher is quoted by the Daily Star as saying.
“I don’t see any reason why he won’t be with us for the remainder of the season, though. Then again, if Arsenal come knocking tomorrow, I don’t think Saffron Walden will be able to compete!”
