'You couldn't write it': Some Everton fans react to 'unbelievable' news about £65,000-a-week man
Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was confirmed that Jean-Philippe Gbamin has picked up yet another injury.
What’s the story?
Well, it’s safe to say the 26-year-old has endured a nightmare on Merseyside since arriving from Mainz 05 in August 2019.
It was BT Sport who covered news of Gbamin’s quad issue, after Rafa Benitez held a press conference before the clash with Norwich.
It really is quite worrying.
Financially, you’d hope Everton have some insurance in the deal.
Ultimately, what can be done? The Ivorian doesn’t want to be injured, but he just can’t stay away from the treatment room. It’s a tough situation.
What can Jean-Philippe Gbamin offer Everton when fit?
It’s a shame that Gbamin can’t stay fit, as we feel he’d actually thrive under Benitez.
The defensive midfielder is a real physical specimen, who would be hugely effective alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, in our view.
With the pair at the base of Benitez’s midfield, it would create a solid foundation for the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to focus on scoring goals.
It could certainly work – potentially, that’s what Everton had in mind when they signed the Ivory Coast international.
Hopefully, the next time Gbamin is fit, he can stay injury free for a sustained amount of time.
For now, let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter have been saying about his absence…
I feel so sorry for Jean-Philippe Gbamin. Not only the injuries, he had a child in the middle of a pandemic in a new country as a relatively young man. But is he the unluckiest footballer ever? Genuinely unbelievable at this stage. Hope he is back soon. #EFC— Sam Carroll (@SamCarroll0) September 24, 2021
In terms of finance we paid £25m he’s on probably £70k a week and he hasn’t kicked a ball for 2 1/2 years more or less. You couldn’t write it could you ?— 1980JIP (@efcjipster) September 24, 2021
Finally someone who understands he is UNLUCKY, it’s not his fault— D (@Dan082617) September 25, 2021
it's been said before, but i think it'll be notable when he's actually available. until then, he's like a figment of the imagination— DC (@SilentBlueGiant) September 24, 2021
Need to investigate his body structure. My money is on McDonald's straws.— Watched Toffee (@WatchedToffee) September 24, 2021
I just don't think Gbamin's ever going to stay fit, I don't think anyone's to blame, its just bad luck & his body's no longer up to the demands of top level football.— colinsmith50 (@colinsmith50) September 24, 2021
