Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was confirmed that Jean-Philippe Gbamin has picked up yet another injury.

What’s the story?

Well, it’s safe to say the 26-year-old has endured a nightmare on Merseyside since arriving from Mainz 05 in August 2019.

Gbamin cost Everton £25m, but has only been able to make four appearances for the club in over two years at Goodison Park.

It was BT Sport who covered news of Gbamin’s quad issue, after Rafa Benitez held a press conference before the clash with Norwich.

It really is quite worrying.

Financially, you’d hope Everton have some insurance in the deal.

Gbamin earns £65,000-a-week, which, when added to his £25m fee, makes him a seriously expensive purchase for the Toffees.

Ultimately, what can be done? The Ivorian doesn’t want to be injured, but he just can’t stay away from the treatment room. It’s a tough situation.

What can Jean-Philippe Gbamin offer Everton when fit?

It’s a shame that Gbamin can’t stay fit, as we feel he’d actually thrive under Benitez.

The defensive midfielder is a real physical specimen, who would be hugely effective alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, in our view.

With the pair at the base of Benitez’s midfield, it would create a solid foundation for the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to focus on scoring goals.

It could certainly work – potentially, that’s what Everton had in mind when they signed the Ivory Coast international.

Hopefully, the next time Gbamin is fit, he can stay injury free for a sustained amount of time.

For now, let’s see what the Everton fans on Twitter have been saying about his absence…
