Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo has heaped praise on teammate Steven Davis during a press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Ross County.
The Northern Ireland international fetched up 300 games in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell and is a role model for the club’s younger players.
Davis has started 16 times during Rangers’ unbeaten Premiership campaign and is in fine form.
Aribo has battled back from an ankle injury picked up earlier in the campaign but is also an important part of Gerrard’s team.
Ahead of this weekend’s contest, the £7,500-a-week star took time to rave about Davis, during a pre-match press conference.
🎙️ JA: Watching Steven Davis in and around the building he is a wonderful pro and you can see how he has played 300 games at this club.
— Rangers Football Club (@RangersFC) January 22, 2021
Rangers boss Gerrard was responsible for bringing Davis back to Ibrox in 2019.
He departed the club in 2012 and would go onto become a cult-hero at Southampton, playing 226 times for the Premier League outfit.
Since returning to Rangers his experience has told, with Gerrard clearly fancying him as a leader for his young side.
Aribo is one of those younger players and his comments clearly indicate that he is a popular figure.
TBR View: Decision time ahead for Gerrard
Davis has been in good form this season but with his contract coming to an end, Gerrard has a decision to make.
The Rangers manager has typically trusted the club’s younger players and at 36, Davis won’t be around forever.
With that in mind, he must decide whether he offers the international captain an extension or chooses to send him on his way.
Rangers are currently 20 points clear of Celtic and look destined to lift the title this season.
Davis might be the perfect player to have in the squad ahead of their first title defence for several years.
An extension to his £20,000-a-week deal could be a wise decision and it’ll be interesting to see what the decision is regarding the experienced maestro.
