Yoann Barbet will hope to prove himself this weekend after summer Leeds United transfer links

Leeds United take on QPR in the Championship this weekend. Whilst Leeds’ place near the top of the league has not come as a surprise QPR were not expected to have had such a positive start to the new season.

Under new boss Mark Warburton, the London side are eighth in the table but just two points behind third-placed Leeds.

So they will be hoping to prove themselves as serious promotion contenders at Elland Road this weekend.

One player who will certainly look to shine is defender Yoann Barbet.

Barbet will first need to be fit, after missing the recent clash with former club Brentford because of a hamstring injury.

But if he is available the Frenchman will be going up against a team who were strongly linked with his signature in the summer.

French publication L’Equipe reported that Leeds United were interested in Barbet over the summer. A deal certainly made sense. The 26-year-old was a free agent and can play at both centre-back and left-back, two areas Leeds were looking for extra cover.

However, he quickly headed to QPR when Warburton made an approach.

Barbet would have likely been a solid back-up option for Leeds, considering the good form of both Liam Cooper and new signing Ben White this season.

He will hope to be fit enough to show Leeds they should have acted on their reported original interest over the summer.
