‘Yes get rid’: Some fans of PL club react as their 33-year-old is linked with Celtic

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster is being linked with Celtic – and some Saints fans on Twitter have responded to claim they will be happy if he exits this summer.

The Scottish Sun reports that the 33-year-old has turned down a new contract with the Saints.

Southampton have reportedly made an attempt to reduce his £100,000-a-week deal down to £70,000-a-week, however, the shot-stopper is not agreeing to that in negotiations.

It means that Celtic’s hierarchy have been alerted to the situation, which means a potential swoop could gather pace.

Also, Bhoys manager Ange Postecoglou is hopeful of bringing in a new goalkeeper to Parkhead. A 6-2 pre-season defeat to West Ham on Saturday only emphasised the need.

Forster to Celtic makes sense for all parties

For Celtic, they know what they would be getting with Forster.

The 33-year-old Englishman is a reliable goalkeeper that has had several spells with the Scottish club in the past, so should slot in effortlessly.

There is no doubt he would be an improvement, too.

Meanwhile, a selection of Southampton fans on social media have made it clear they want Forster gone.

He’s still got one year remaining on his sizeable contract at St Mary’s, so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of deal Celtic could arrange with him. Surely he would need to take a wage cut.
