'Yes': £35m attacker says he's had offer from London club, admits he's a huge fan of Tottenham boss Conte

Federico Bernardeschi joined MLS side Toronto this summer on a free transfer after his contract at Juventus expired but told Gazzetta dello Sport he had an offer from a London club

The Italian winger has dropped a hint that Tottenham Hotspur may have made an attempt to sign him this summer, while admitting his love for Antonio Conte

Bernardeschi has spent his last five seasons at the Old Lady after joining from Fiorentina for £35 million back in 2017 (BBC). He had a pretty successful period there as well, as he scooped three Serie A titles among other honours.

And at just 28-years-old, the Italian international has swapped a top European club for the MLS, in what was a surprising move.

Bernardeschi had offer from London club

The former Juventus man has told Gazzetta dello Sport that he had an offer from a London club, while admitting his admiration for Conte.

He said: “I thank everyone, in particular (Atalanta coach Gian Piero) Gasperini. They wanted me strongly in Bergamo.

“Yes, (I also had an offer) from London. But I don’t say who. Let’s say that I admire Conte shamelessly.”

Despite being in what would be considered his prime years, Bernardeschi has joined Toronto and says he has ‘nothing to prove’.

“I won nine trophies playing for Juve. What more could I ask for? I have nothing to prove,” he said.

Whether it was Spurs or another London club who made the offer to Bernardeschi remains a mystery. But he did admit his love for Conte and has played under the Spurs boss for the Italian national team.

Conte does already have a left-footed right-winger in Dejan Kulusevski so if Tottenham are the unnamed London club, maybe the Italian had other plans for Bernardeschi.

This would probably be using him as a wing-back as the Italian has a track-record of converting experienced wingers into brilliant players in that position.

But in terms of knowing the club that apparently made an offer for the Italian, that’ll remain unknown unless Bernardeschi himself tells the tale at a later date.
