Yerson Mosquera joins Wolves: What have Atletico National fans said about Molineux newcomer?
Yerson Mosquera is Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ first signing of the summer.
The 20-year-old is joining the Molineux outfit on a five-year deal, subject to a medical and work permit.
According to the Express & Star, Wolves paid Atletico Nacional around £4.5million for Mosquera’s signature.
The Colombian made his professional debut in 2020 and has recently begun training with the senior national team.
Mosquera also becomes the first Wolves signing under new manager Bruno Lage.
Yerson Mosqueira has a “high ceiling”
Wolves technical director Scott Sellars said Lage was “involved in the process” behind Yerson Mosquera’s signing.
“He’s certainly a player with a high ceiling, someone who is highly regarded in Colombia and we believe the attributes he has will fit very well into the Premier League and into our squad,” Sellars told the WWFC website.
Mosquera enjoyed an impressive first full season at Atletico Nacional.
The centre-back helped his club to top the Colombian top-flight league standings.
Mosquera also played regularly in their Copa Libertadores campaign, and has clocked up 24 senior appearances.
The signing of Yerson Mosquera is a result of new government rules which allow access to young talent outside the EU.
“Before Brexit, we couldn’t go into South America unless it was to buy very established players,” added Sellars.
“We would’ve had to wait for a player to spend time developing at another club, and for their value to go up substantially before we could bring them in.”
Mosquera will link up with Lage’s squad ahead of the 2021-22 Premier League season next month.
“Got yourselves a tank”
Atletico Nacional fans think Wolves have signed a top prospect and expect him to go far at the Premier League club.
You guys are taking a very talented young soccer promise. He has a good ball control, fast and knows how to come out as a defender from his area. Long and precise pases to push the team. Needs a bit of polishing but for sure a good signing. I hope he can adapt to the team well.— Daniel V (@DJDanielV) June 17, 2021
