Chelsea and Liverpool fans both know just how good a player Mohamed Salah really is.
The Egyptian couldn’t do much when he was at Stamford Bridge many years ago, but his rise to fame since has been incredible.
Salah has been one of the best players in the world since his move to Liverpool, and his performances this season have been unbelievable.
However, Premier League legend Yaya Toure believes one of Salah’s old teammates at Chelsea was actually better than him.
Yaya Toure says Didier Drogba was better than Mohamed Salah
Didier Drogba is Chelsea’s best striker in the history of the Premier League.
The Ivorian joined the Blues from Marseille and was at the club for eight years before leaving on a free transfer in 2012, just weeks after he won them the Champions League against Bayern Munich.
Drogba returned to Chelsea in 2014 and played another season under Jose Mourinho. He didn’t play a lot of football then, but he’s still adored by Chelsea supporters.
Toure knows Drogba really well having played with him for the Ivory Coast national team for many years. He has now had his say on him.
In a video on Goal, the Manchester City icon picked Drogba ahead of African legends like Sadio Mane, George Weah and also Salah.
“I love Drogba, what a player,” he said.
While choosing the Chelsea legend over the Liverpool superstar, Toure added: “I think people have been unfair at some point, I think he deserved to win the Ballon d’Or as well. Drogba definitely.”
Drogba at Chelsea vs Salah at Liverpool stats compared
Drogba and Salah are both Premier League greats, there’s no debate there.
The two players, for their respective clubs and the fans, have produced some unbelievable memories and Salah is still going strong today.
But, how do their numbers compare against each other?
| Games | Goals | Assists | Trophies won | |
| Didier Drogba at Chelsea | 381 | 164 | 78 | 13 |
| Mohamed Salah at Liverpool | 383 | 237 | 106 | 8 |
As the table shows above, Salah has been a level above Drogba in terms of goals and assists, even though he has mostly played out wide.
Drogba, however, has won more silverware – three more Premier League titles than Salah.
That, perhaps, is one of the reasons why Toure prefers his compatriot over the Liverpool number 11.
